MEGAPLEX 17, Sandy, Utah — The MEGAPLEX 17 Theatres at Jordan Commons, part of the entertainment division of the Larry H. Miller Group, Inc., was recently ranked 1st in the nation for total weekend attendance to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

“We worked 24 hours around the clock to keep up with the demand,” said Cal Gundersen, Theatre Manager of MEGAPLEX 17 at Jordan Commons. “We had a lot of team members and guests dressed up as pirates—it’s been a very busy and exciting weekend.”

More then 12,900 tickets were sold for the Friday, July 7 grand opening date of the movie at the MEGAPLEX 17 at Jordan Commons. A total of 27,475 tickets were sold for opening weekend Dead Man’s Chest making it a national and individual theatre record.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest took in a record $132 million in its first three days, according to studio estimates Sunday. Disney's swashbuckling sequel sailed past the previous all-time best debut, 2002's Spider-Man, which took in $114.8 million in its first weekend.

Dead Man's Chest also did nearly three times the business of its predecessor, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl which took in $46.6 million over opening weekend in 2003. The gross sales of the MEGAPLEX 17 ranked 3rd in the nation for opening day and 8th in the nation for total weekend box office sales.

“Other theatres around the nation charge a lot more for their ticket movie prices and that’s why we were not first in total gross profit,” said Dale Harvey, General Manager of the MEGAPLEX Theatres. “Yet, we’re very happy that the people of Utah continue to decide to share their movie going experience with the MEGAPLEX Theatres. We look forward to many more movie attendance records in the future.”

Additional MEGAPLEX Theatres at the Gateway, Thanksgiving Point and the new MEGAPLEX 20 at the District in South Jordan also had record attendance.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest movie is available in traditional film format and the new Digital Cinema format. To purchase Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest movie tickets, call (801) 304-INFO (4636) or purchase tickets online at www.megaplextheatres.com.
