The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is Predicted to Set Local and National Box Office Records as it Opens Tonight at 8:00pm at all Megaplex Theatre Locations.
Megaplex Theatres, Sandy, Utah—The Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons, part of the entertainment division of the Larry H. Miller Group, Inc., anticipate another record breaking weekend in attendance and sales to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
“Over the years we’ve had an energetic and loyal fan base to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies,” said Dick Cornell, Megaplex 17 at Jordan Commons Theatre Manager. “Utah movie fans love and embrace this type of film. They dress up in costume. They cheer and can’t wait for the fun to begin.”
The Megaplex Theatres have received national recognition over the years for the Pirates of the Caribbean films. In 2003 Megaplex 17 at Jordan Commons was ranked number one in the nation for total opening box office sales with the release of the original Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. This same success continued in 2006 as the Megaplex 17 sold a total of 27,975 tickets during opening weekend to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest making it a national and individual theatre record of total attendance in one weekend.
Part of the success of the Megaplex Theatres is attributed to the latest in Digital Cinema presentation. Movie goers now have an option of seeing the movie in a 35mm film auditorium or a Digital Cinema auditorium. Available at all Megaplex Theatres, Digital Cinema provides guests with the ultimate movie going experience with crisp image quality, including more than 35 trillion different colors and true, uncompressed digital sound.
Another reason for the Megaplex Theatres success is reserved seating. “Nothing is worse then arriving to a movie and not being sure if you’re going to get a good or bad seat or a seat at all,” said Blake Andersen, Megaplex 20 at the District Theatre Manager. “Reserved seating eliminates the need to stand in line for hours and gives the guest time to purchase food and then stroll right into the movie.”
Reserved seating is a more convenient and time saving process. Movie patrons can reserve seats online, at an automated ticket kiosk or at the theatre box office. There is no additional cost and reserved seating can be purchased minutes or weeks before a movie show time. In the theatre auditorium, seats are numbered by row and location that correspond to the reserved seating movie ticket. Movie guests still have an option of traditional theatre auditoriums or reserved seating auditoriums.
Another element of the success of the Megaplex Theatres is due to the private and cooperate theatre buyouts. The Megaplex Theatres have an industry leading events and services department that schedules advanced movie buyouts. The events department also does full catering, birthday parties, private functions, business meetings and more.
“We’ve had a variety of companies buy out entire theatres to this movie,” said Dave Spackmen Megaplex Theatres Event Manager. “The theatre buy outs makes a nice gift to clients and employees and everyone wants to see this big summer block buster films.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will have advanced showings beginning at 8:00pm tonight and continuing through midnight at all theatre locations. Activities include costume contests with professional Jack Sparrow impersonators, photo opportunities, a Harley Davidson motorcycle airbrushed with a Pirates theme and many more events. The public is invited to come down starting around 7:00pm to enjoy the festivities and people dressed up as Pirates. Activities will continue throughout the weekend at all Megaplex Theatres
