Gem Theatre Will Open for Business

Garfield County News, 12 September 1985, page 9
Garfield County will once again have an active movie theater when the Gem in Panguitch opens its doors Friday, Sept. 13 to a cowboy movie, "Silverado," said the new manager Wayne Kinnie, recently moved to Panguitch from Las Vegas.

Kinnie, who operated theaters before coming to Panguitch, said that he is going to please the customers if he can, and to that end he says, "I intend to change hours and days open if need be;  I intend to abide by the viewers' likes and dislikes."

Kinnie, a professional photographer and one time newspaper photographer, came through Panguitch years ago and liked it.  He said on a recent return trip, he decided to give the theater a try.

"All I ask," said Kinnie, "is that the people in the county tell me what they want to see.  After all, things that I like are not necessarily what everyone else likes."

Kinnie, a grandfather of four and a native of the state of Michigan says that he likes it here and if the show house can make a go of it, he would like to stay.

He said he welcomes comments and suggestions and is willing to do all he can to please.

He noted that the last few times the show was open, it was not supported too well and it had to close, forcing moviegoers to head for Cedar City or Richfield for their big screen viewing.

Kinnie said he will change movies every week and will have a full line of goodies.
