Gaslight is Closed

Deseret News, 10 May 1977, page C8

The Gaslight Dinner Theater is closing immediately, according to announcement from Adam Gregor, associate producer.

Speaking on behalf of Barton and Vaud Corp. of Salt Lake, which has been in charge of local operations, Gregor said:

"It is with great regret that we announce the closing of the Gaslight Dinner Theater. There will be no more performances.

"High production costs for the high caliber of star shows required a greater percentage of attendance than we regularly received.

"We want to thank our customers for their past patronage and also to thank others who supported us."

The Gaslight, located at 826 South Main St., was preparing to note the first year of operation. According to local sources, the front of the theater was to be remodeled and a "new look" was to be given to the outside of the showhouse.

The Gaslight has presented shows starring such artists as Bob Denver, who has been in the current "A Thousand Clowns" for the past week, Broderick Crawford, Imogene Coca, Sid Caesar, Loretta Swit, Ken Berry and Jim Hutton.

Tiffany's Attic, a dinner theater in Arrow Press Square, which opened about the same time as the Gaslight did, has been closed for the past three weeks due to two fires. Management of that theater was not available for comment as to when it would open or as to its future.
