Summary:

The closure of the Trolley Corners Cinemas made if more difficult for Sundance Institute officials to secure enough theaters for the 120 features and 82 shorts selected for the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

"That was a huge blow to the festival," said Jill Miller, director of the Sundance Institute. "It was our largest single venue in the Salt Lake Valley . . . And besides, it was a wonderful old theater — there were a lot of good memories there."

Speaking of the reopening of the Trolley Square Cinemas, Miller said, “We had several contingency plans, but that really was the best news we could have gotten."

There will be seven auditoriums in Salt Lake City dedicated to Sundance 2005: the Tower Theatre, three screens at the Trolley Square Cinemas, and three screens at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.

The Racquet Club in Park City, which has hosted the festival's closing-night awards ceremony for years, will now serve as a full-time screening location with 600-plus seats.

The Yarrow Hotel Theatre, which in the past has been used for screenings, will now be used solely for panel discussions and press events.
