New Gem Theatre Will Open Sunday
Garfield County News, 12 May 1938
With remodeling and improvement at the Gem Theatre almost complete plans are set to reopen this popular place of amusement Sunday evening, May 15. A special picture has been listed for that night's program and patrons are promised that the repainted and remodeled building will do a great deal toward making the program more enjoyable.
During the last ten days the theatre has been closed for the purpose of remodeling, painting, redecorating and a general renovation. The old screen has been moved back some fifty feet, giving more seating and floor capacity, which will result in greater comfort to patrons. A new ventilation system has been installed and it is the aim of the management to install a balcony.
With a desire toward furnishing the residents and theatre patrons of Panguitch and Garfield county with the best in the way of entertainment, the management is sparing no expense in the program of improving their building. They have engaged some of the best pictures to be procured through the booking agencies, some of which will be found listed in the regular theatre programcolumn of this issue of the News. A member of the management stated to a News representative this week that "We feel that this section deserves the best that we can offer in the way of pictures and it is our plan to furnish them with such entertainment. Too, we feel that comfortable seats and an attractive building go a long way toward the enjoyment of our programs, so we plan, during the next few months, to install more comfortable seats and more of them. We feel by that time we will have one of the modern and up-to-date show houses in the southern section of the state."
