The New Opera House.
Messrs. Bowes and Phillips Go East to Make the Bookings.
Ogden Standard Examiner, 14 October 1890, page 4
The new Opera House will be opened on Christmas eve, provided – well there is no provise about it. The contractor has promised to have the house ready and Bowes and Phillips went East last night for the purpose of making the bookings.
“We will open on Christmas eve,” they said to a Standard reporter as they were ready to board the Rio Grande Western last evening.
“Will you go further than Denver?” was asked.
“That will depend upon whether we make a deal with Peter McCourt, manager of the Silver circuit, or with Al Hayman of the California circuit. If we close with either of these circuits we will let you know right away what will be the opening attraction. If not we shall have to go to Chicago and New York.”
The reporter took a trip around the new building and found the work progressing rapidly. It looks a good deal like the inside of an opera house and if a cover were on and chairs in place a show could be given there tonight. There is of course a great deal of work to be done yet, but it will be done in time for a grand opening on Christmas eve.
