New Structure Will Cost at Least $25,000
Work will be commenced soon on a new, large commodious family theatre to be built on the space between the Reed hotel and the St. Paul Lodging House. Lester B. Funge, for twenty-five years a resident of this city, who has been in San Francisco for the past eleven years engaged in managing theatres, is the promoter of the new building. To a reporter today he stated that the proposed building would be an up-do-date playhouse with all the modern accessories. It is to be known as the Grande Vaudeville Theatre. Something of the size may be judged when it is said that the building will reach back to the Grand theatre and will have a seating capacity of eight hundred opera chairs.
The estimated cost is $25,000. It is to be two stories in height, built of pressed brick and brown sandstone. J. P. O'Neill, who is the owner of the property on which the building is to be erected, will be the contractor for the new building, and Architect Smith is now engaged in drawing up the plans.
Lester B. Funge is well and favorably known in the city, having spent about twenty-five years in Ogden. He is thoroughly conversant with the show business and appreciates the fact that Ogden is a good show town. He assures the public that clean, moral, up-do-date vaudeville performances will be put on at the new play house.
