The Critchlow Investment company has accepted the plans of F. C. Woods & Co., for the new “Alhambra” theater and the same is to be erected immediately. The new theater means an investment of close to $10,000. The site, as stated in a former issue, is between the Reed Hotel building and the Opera House on Washington avenue. The building will have a 36-foot frontage and will be 120 feet in depth. Its style of architecture is of the Alhambra type commonly called Spanish. The 18-foot lobby will be extended by a portico which will extend from the front entrance 10 feet out over the pavement forming a commodious shelter for those about to be admitted to the theater. On the left will be a candy booth, back of which will be the ladies' retiring rooms, where baby carriage storage and other conveniences will be furnished. At the right of the lobby will be the ticket office and the manager's office – back of which will be a gents' lavatory and retiring room.
Above the lobby and offices, the second floor will contain three office suites, access to which will be gained by a broad stairway on the right, which will also be used for an exit from the balcony of the theater.
The main body of the hall will have a center and two side aisles and will accommodate about 450 people. The balcony above will accommodate an additional 160 or so, making the capacity of the house in the neighborhood of 600. There will be five exits, providing adequately for the rapid handling of large audiences and also serve in cases of emergency for the quick emptying of the hall. Heat will be furnished by the Reed hotel steam plant.
The company, which will hereafter be known as the Alhambra Theater company, is capitalized to the amount of $20,000 with a paid up capital of $11,000. B. P. Critchlow is president; John Q. Critchlow, vice president; B. A. Critchlow, secretary, and W. J. Critchlow, treasurer.
Arrangements have been perfected with Trent & Wilson of Salt Lake for the latest films; in fact, the Critchlows will have the first run of film service in Ogden, thus assuring their patrons absolutely new pictures at all times. In fact, it is understood that the films will be shipped direct to Ogden from the eastern manufacturers, and thence to the agents at Salt Lake, giving the local house the very first use of them. Trent & Wilson are stockholders in the local undertaking.
Ground for the building was broken this morning.
