Casino Star Plans Concert at Gunnison Valley High School
Press Release
Casino Star Theatre, 11 January 2008
Although the historic Casino Star Theatre in Gunnison remains closed, the Board is presenting a concert at Gunnison Valley High School on Thursday, January 31. The bluegrass group Cold Creek will fiddle, pick and strum on the high school stage beginning at 7:00 p.m. Since this concert is a fundraiser for the theatre restoration, donations are set at $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and students.
Activities occurring inside the Casino Star Theatre include continued clean-up from Top Stop's gasoline disaster which has closed the theatre for the first time in 95 years. Nevertheless, the directors met last Thursday with an architect, several engineers, a contractor, and a theatrical consultant identify the equipment and upgrades necessary to re-open at the earliest possible date that assures the safety of our patrons. The planning group also worked to plan and prioritize the restoration effort.
In the meantime, concerts previously scheduled for the Casino Star's stage have been relocated to Gunnison Valley High School at the corner of Highway 89 and the Mayfield Road. Earlier in the day, Cold Creek will perform at the Snow College Convocaction in the Jorgensen Concert Hall of the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts.
Cold Creek appears in concert in Sanpete Country through the partnership of the Utah Arts Council Performing Arts Tour, the Casino Star Theatre Foundation, and the Snow College Convocation program.
