Renowned Poet to Give Benefit Reading at Casino Star Theatre
Press Release
Casino Star Theatre, 24 April 2009
David Lee, author of 15 books of poems and Utah's first Poet Laureate, will read from his works at a special benefit performance for the Casino Star Theatre on Monday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m.
David's poems are unique to the world of poetry, with elements from his background as a seminary candidate for the ministry, a boxer, a decorated Army veteran, and a semi-pro baseball player—the only white player to ever play for the Negro League Post Texas Blue Stars and a knuckleball pitcher for the South Plains Texas League Hubbers. David has also been a hog farmer and a laborer in a cotton mill.
Somehow, he found his way to the University of Utah to earn a Ph.D. in English, specializing in the works of John Milton and sharing graduate school status with Diana Major Spencer and Susan Burdett, former and current Professors of English at Snow College. David recently retired as the head of the languages and literature department at Southern Utah University.
Suggested donations for David's reading are $7.50 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and students. Advance tickets are available at Rasmussen's Ace Hardware in Gunnison and the Sanpete Messenger office in Manti. Orders of $30 or more can be purchased with Visa, MasterCard or Discover from Diana Spencer at 435-979-2798
