Theater plans may be scaled back

Proposed Sandy facility would host regional events

Proscenium:

• plans for a Broadway theater could be scaled back, because the credit market tumbled in late 2008
• theater might be just big enough for regional plays and events
• Sandy Planning Commission approved a temporary sales office on the site

details of original Proscenium development plan:

• 10-acre complex
• three towers, one at least 30 stories high
• a 2,400-seat theater was to be at the base of the main tower
• an arts school
• a black-box theater
• condos
• a hotel
• an open-air spa and pool somewhere near the 15th floor

Utah Performance Center:
Salt Lake City is moving forward with plans for a $81 million Broadway theater in the old Newspaper Agency Corp. building.  The city's Redevelopment Agency received proposals from two developers : the Hines Co. (Kearns Building in Salt Lake, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and New World Symphony in Miami) and Steve Crane / Moshe Safdie (Salt Lake's award-winning Main Library).
