Newest Theater in S.L. To Open With 'Magus'

"The Magus," 20th Century-Fox's psychological drama and film adaptation of John Fowles' best-selling novel, opens Friday at 5 p.m. at Salt Lake City's newest theatre, Cinema, at 45 W. Broadway.
Filmed entirely on the island of Majorica, "The Magus" is the story of a human chess game, conducted by Anthony Quinn, who portrays a Greek-English millionaire.
Mr. Quinn manipulates circumstances to aid a complicated modern man, played by Michael Caine, Mr. Caine's life is further complicated in split romantic interest in Anna Karina and Candice Bergen.
The new theater is owned by Spiros Bartzos and will feature films with adult appeal. It is designed in knotty pine with some 200 arm-chair seats.
"The Magus" is produced by Jud Kinberg and John Kohn who also brought author Fowles' "The Collector" to the screen. It is directed by Guy Green, who also directed "The Mark," "The Angry Silence" and "A Patch of Blue."
