Two of Utah’s most celebrated performance organizations will be presenting programs in Gunnison in March. On Tuesday, March 15, 2011, the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival will present its touring production of Macbeth on the stage of Gunnison Valley High School at 7:00 p.m. The following week, on March 24, the Utah Opera Company will present a concert at the Casino Star Theatre. Both programs are sponsored by the Casino Star Theatre Foundation.
“We realize these programs are pretty close together,” explains Diana Spencer, a director of CSTF, “but with organizations of this calibre, with international reputations, you work within their schedules. We’re just lucky to get one of them—let alone both!”
Both visits are associated with POPS, a program funded by the State Legislature and the State Office of Education to foster Professional Outreach Programs to Schools. The Shakespeare tour includes a school performance and theater workshops prior to the evening’s public event. Utah Opera will likewise spend most of the week in area schools, with their public concert in Gunnison as the community highlight.
Mark your calendars for these two outstanding cultural opportunities to be presented locally by the Casino Star Theater Foundation, with special support from Gunnison Valley High School, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and Utah Opera.
