Queen to reopen

The new movie house opening in Bountiful Friday is really a reopening of one of the city's oldest.

The Queen Theater will feature the move "The Deep" for her royal reopening.  But many longtime patrons may be in for a few surprises.  The first will be at the box office where a 75-cents-a-show sign will greet them.  The other will be the interior.  You see, the Queen has had a substantial face-lifting in keeping with her (re)coronation.

Bob Eskridge, who represents Consolidated Amusements, a chain of theaters based in Salt Lake, promises a fully automated theater.

Additionally, the corporation intends to correct what had become a common complaint at the nearly 30-year-old theater - the sound.

According to Eskridge, they have invested "a couple thousand dollars in a whole new sound system."  They have installed between $6,000 and $7,000 worth of other new equipment.  And a new screen will be installed after the first of the year.

"One of the things we're striving for is professionalism," says Eskridge.

The movie house will feature second run movies, as opposed to second rate.  Bob hastens to add that second run means simply that - just a movie that had run elsewhere a month or so earlier.  It has nothing to do with the quality of the film, he stresses.
