The West Jordan City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to award a $49,000 contract for asbestos to be removed from the Sugar Factory's north and east buildings in preparation for demolition. The council is expected to choose a company to demolish the facility at its October 27 or November 10 meeting.
City building official Bill Bailey issued a condemnation order for the entire complex on September 29, calling for the buildings and silos to be demolished within 60 days.
