Summary:

On Monday, Thanksgiving Point announced and broke ground for a new eight-screen movie theater, the Thanksgiving Point Cinema 8. The theater complex will cost $4.5 million and is scheduled to open Memorial Day 2003. All auditoriums will have stadium-style seating. Three theaters will seat 300, with the others ranging in size from 120 to 200 seats. The theater will be located on the southeast corner of the North American Museum of Ancient Life, which also houses Utah's only large-screen 3-D theater.

“LCA Entertainment, which also runs the Water Gardens Cinema 6 movie theater in Pleasant Grove and is affiliated with Westates Theatres, will own and operate the new theater. . . . The company will own the theater but will operate it on land leased to the company by Thanksgiving Point.”

Thanksgiving Point is now moving into its second phase, which involves leasing property to outside companies. This means that for the first time some of Thanksgiving Point's attractions will be open on Sunday.

"As those partners come on, we, of course, have no jurisdiction over their operating hours and the days they want to operate," said Brandon Spevak, director of marketing for Thanksgiving Point.
