Anent That Hifalutin' Roller Skating Rink
Garfield County News, 10 February 1933, page 1
The wrecking of the old opera house of former years and lately known as Sam's Garage, will no doubt bring back memories of other times to some of the older residents of Panguitch. As stated in last week's issue, the building for a long time was used as a roller skating rink and herewith is printed an account of some of the antics of some of our now sedate personages when encumbered by those little shoes with wheels attached.
No doubt some of you old timers will remember the music to this old time classic, which we are able to place before you through the courtesy of William Pinney:
I sing of an institution that's caused great confusion;
I guess you've all heard of it before,
Where maidens and lasses and maidens and their
Go gliding out upon the glossy floor.
Now it is "sashinating" while you are agitating,
And trying from your beau to catch a wink;
Your feet will fly from under, and you'll bawl out Oh thunder!
In the high toned roller skating rink.
Little Mollie Brown, she never never tumbles down,
And for her partner never stops to wait.
There's little Mollie Beck, she nearly breaks her neck
Every time she goes out on the floor to skate.
Old lady Russell broke her brand new bonnet,
Which cost her all of forty cents I think.
There was old Crooganhans split his Sunday meetin' vest
In the high toned roller skating rink.
I'll try it just once more; my head is very sore,
I've a rig I'll bet you can't be beat.
I've a patent head, my shoes are made of lead,
I've a brand new India Rubber seat,
Boxing gloves to wear, a suit that will not tear,
Skates without no rollers on, I think,
Now give me plenty of room, for there's going to be a boom,
In the Panguitch roller skating rink.
